CHST certification cost, from application to exam seat
Facts read in BCSP's Credentials At-A-Glance and 5 other documents listed under Sources
As of November 2026, CHST certification costs $300 for the exam plus a $140 application fee, or $426 when bought together. You apply and pay through a profile on the board's website, and once approved you schedule with Pearson VUE from that same profile. You must sit the exam in person; the board lists no way to take it from home.

Application, approval, booking: the order of steps
- Confirm the experience rule before you pay anything: the requirements section explains what counts.
- Create a profile on bcsp.org, open the Applications menu and submit the application with its fee. You can add the exam or the bundle at this point, or buy it later.
- Answer the disclosure questions about criminal convictions and any license or credential that was suspended, revoked or put on probation; the board keeps the answers confidential but can refuse an application on them.
- Wait for approval. From that date you have 1 year to schedule and pass; the clock starts at approval, not on the day you applied.
- Buy the exam if you have not already, then use the single sign-on button in your profile to reach Pearson VUE and choose a center and date.
- Sit the exam. The official result appears as soon as you submit.
Testing locations, and the online question
Testing is on computer at Pearson VUE centers, and an employer can arrange a group sitting on its own premises. Book soon after approval so a retake still fits in the year.
Searches for an online version mostly turn up prep courses. Those can be taken online; the exam itself, as the board describes it, cannot.
Single exam or the two-attempt bundle
Prices below are from the fee sheet the board re-issued in October 2026.
- One attempt costs $300 + $140 when the application and exam are bought separately, and less as a combo; the table has the combo price.
- The bundle adds a second attempt and a self-assessment; its price, with and without the application, is in the Other prices row.
- A single retake costs $300.
- Keeping the credential after you pass costs $150 a year.
The bundle pays off when a second attempt looks likely; check with the board how long its access lasts before you buy. If you score well on practice sets, the single exam is the cheaper start, and a retake can still be bought later.
If your year is nearly up, you can buy time with a $100 one-time eligibility extension, good for a further year. It is sold only close to the deadline, as the Window to test row explains, so note the date when you are approved.
